Red's Pikachu was the highest level mon in the franchise for a very long time, Ethan may or may not have beaten Red, Brendan managed to catch a Pokemon that can get 2 global threats to stop fighting with a roar, Lucas has Arceus, Hilbert is still training somewhere, Nate has beaten 9 Champions, Calem has a Pokemon that will kill everything near by once it's time runs out, Elio has a being that lit up all of Ultra Space with just its aura, Victor beat 2 unbeatable champions, etc.

Nowhere does it confirm that Ethan beat Red, yet you still put him above Red in both skill and power.
If you're gonna say Lucas/Dawn has Arceus, the reward for completing the Pokedex, then you have to treat all the other protagonists just as fairly, if Ethan beats Red, then so does Nate, who near the end of B2W2 is given N's dragon.

You know that in order to fight the Champions in the PWT, you need to complete all of the gym leader tourneys first, right?
Nate beat all of Kanto's, Johto's, Hoenn's, Sinnoh's and Unova's Gym Leaders.

The Azure Flute was never released so an unobtainable event is non-canon.
Best he has is Dialga/Palkia/Giratina.

Ethan has never, ever, under any capacity, ever been referred to as Gold officially. He is Ethan, in the same way Brendan was also Brendan in both Ruby and OmegaRuby.

Characters don't fucking change names in the remakes, and design-wise, Ethan probably had the least changed to him in his remake besides Gen 4 protags in BDSP.

I hate seeing retarded nostalgiafags looking at retro-style art and going "SEE, NOW **THATS** MUH GOLD, NOT ETHAN"

Even Silver was never referred to as Silver until literally like a year ago in Pokémon Masters because I guess TPCi had to go with something. And Ethan is still Ethan.

I think anon is alluding to what's established in the anime (and mildly inferred in the games) about Galar having one of the longest running and most prestigious League's/Pokémon competitors, with Leon potentially being the strongest Champion canonically.

Thus Gloria took on potentially the strongest League (in the format of an actual Tournament and not just some potentially washed-up old League members) and beat the strongest Champion.

Even if we're to exclude battle facilities, Rosa/Nate still score highly based on their acclamations.

They took on an even stronger Ghetsis, AND his Kyurem, without a Dragon to defend them the way Hilbert/Hilda did, and in the Postgame had both Alder AND Cynthia as superbosses.

That's not PWT, that's postgame superboss, the same way Ethan battled Red.

If we're to allow 3rd party content in the discussion, Sugimori-approved Pokémon Masters also seems to favor Rosa, where in all the cutscenes, she seems to be most prominently featured as battling alongside Scottie/Bettie, and winning the League on Pasio.

I know there are those who would dismiss that because it's a spin-off, but it's more narratively-driven than a battle facility, and in it she beat Cynthia and Red in the Semi-Finals and Finals respectively.

Secondary name choices were not taken seriously until gen 3 when the other gender showed up as a character, and they aren't taken seriously in retrospect either. It goes by the convention of R/B, because you have the previous generation's protag show up with the name Red within the game.
Nobody likes the name Ethan. Nobody associates Ethan with Gold, except anal fags like you that need things to abide by the rulebook.

Ultimately, it's all pretty headcanony. Nobody is as clearly defined as Red. Or even Gold/Kris for that matter.

That skill/power chart seems pretty arbitrarily put together too. What makes it so that Brendan is particularly unskilled but has a lot of power when his father is a Gym Leader? I would say that, by default, most protagonists in the series have an excess of skill as they are depicted and treated like prodigal talents. I don't see why Nate and Hilbert are particularly high up on that list but somehow have less power than Brendan.

I was just providing non-PWT examples of Rosa's achievements because people get too hung up on the PWT when even without it she's still one of the best trainers to date.

At least on a trainer-to-trainer battling basis, things do get weird when you have to take account Selene and Brendan's cosmic world saving legendary adventures.

The funny thing is Flannery if you talk to her after beating her explicitly states your battle style is very similar to Norman's implying that canonically the gen 3 protag was likely trained in being a Pokemon Trainer by their father, unlike the other protags who are just child prodigies.

Are people actually trying to say the PWT doesn't count? If Gold is strong because he beat two Leagues and Red then Nate/Rosa is infinitely more powerful due to being all the gym leaders and champions of 5 regions, including Red.
I don't really like factoring in legends to powerlevels since that shifts the discussion from the trainer's feats to whatever level of god tier Masuda felt like giving the box legend that day, but if we're talking about just how accomplished each trainer is, there's no justifiable reason Nate/Rosa isn't top of the list.

So it just so happens to take a universe where that one gender is the protag and another isn't

The game's version of Kanto played out differently, as Leaf/Green was seemingly also a trainer during all of that, but the plot seemingly played out the same as FRLG beyond that, and Galar played out differently because Gloria and Hop simply defeated Eternatus, Gloria never caught it in Masters

Only Johto completely sets up Red as the final challenge, as Red's actions are brought up, even more so in HGSS as having an impact on the world

Honestly makes me disappointed you never fight the BW1 protag when you're using memory link, since they do that there as well in BW2 bringing up your older character

Mean whiles beyond the first time you go to PWT, nothing really incentivizes you to do it

Not saying PWT isn't canon, because I believe it is, just saying Red's battle is more relevant to the narrative the game is trying to tell

They would be more than capable of shitstomping anyone who dared to oppose them among the other protagonists, even those who also canonically capture Legendaries.
Also, without them, none of the other protagonists would be able to do what they could do because the world wouldn't exist the way it does without the PLA Protagonist setting things into motion proper because the world would be ruled or destroyed by a schizo like Volo generations before Red ever starts his journey (or is born for that matter).

Pokemon World Tournament and Masters both frame Red as one of the strongest trainers in canon

Not only that Game Freak have actively gone out of their way to make Red's team some of the highest level Pokemon in the series, when Barry's Pokemon ended up higher level then Red's Pikachu in GSC, they made Pikachu an even higher level in HGSS

However they have pretty much implied Cynthia is on Red's level now, since her Garchomp is the same level as his Pikachu during rematches
