How is it linear? You have to backtrack multiple times to progress in the story, it’s the least linear region in the entire franchise.

Oh my goodness! Wholesome pwnsome Shino Chiho, the home of Piplup and Lucario, is rewarding me for picking up my HM slaves from the box and returning to a route I've passed through before! It's giving me a rush of serotonin and dopamine. I've never seen such amazing gameplay. I'm awestruck!

It’s to reward your exploration and not just give it like a handout to a toddler, no wonder unovaborts prefer unova they have the attention span of a goldfish and would be lost if they had to explore a non linear region to find the things they need.

At least you don’t just go in boring circle, you actually have to go back and forth from city to city to progress the plot. To me it just makes the game feel more alive & interesting.
