>>49766561What makes Gen I fun and replayable to me (apart from preferring the aesthetic, tone, and world to anything shat out by modern Pokémon) is the choices in how you progress.
You don't HAVE to visit Route 22 and the League Gate or do the optional rival battle.
You don't HAVE to battle Misty as soon as you reach Vermillion City.
You don't HAVE to battle Lt. Surge until way later.
You don't HAVE to battle Erika until way later.
You don't HAVE to take Cycling Road.
You don't HAVE to get Fly.
You don't HAVE to visit Diglett's Cave.
You don't HAVE to use Flash.
You don't HAVE to visit the Seafoam Islands.
You don't HAVE to visit the Power Plant.
You don't HAVE to wait to do Silph Co. after defeating Giovanni in the Rocket Game Corner.
It's fun to keep replaying the games in different ways, and every game gets progressively less like that, turning your adventure into a guided tour.
