Thats fair. As much as i like open world and crafting game I understand it can be repetitive and boring for many. I loved arceus and hope the next game have more cities with 18 gyms, a league or more and at least a battle facility, or just any one of those. More trainer battles would be fun too.

Seems pretty clear GF's A and B teams started work at the same time on PLA and S/V.
That's why a third team was needed to make BDSP.

people where overwhelmingly positive about the return of gyms, the wild area and the characters when swsh came out. As were they about SM when that came out. And XY when that came out. Once all the poketubers move on the true fan reception will remain.

the wild area ended up being a complete lie though, pla is more or less what people expected and gen 9 seems to maybe have that

Is it just me or it's rather impressive that Gamefreak were actually planning to use the open world design all along for Gen 9 yet they didn't even wait to see proper reception for the pilot game to make that decision? What would they do if PLA was poorly recieved? Scrap it all and delay?

Always seemed like they wanted to go in that direction but could only achieve the Wild Area to begin with.
PLA fleshed it out a lot more and Gen 9 will presumably flesh it out further with actual Towns/Cities, maybe even on a single map.

I enjoyed my time with PLA.
The revamped combat and catching system breathed new life in to this series. I really hope GF brings it's elements to the new mainline series games, Idk if I can go back to the classic style of battling.
