Scarlet version's particle effect is a bunch of orange triangles (which is similar to the orange in the emblem being divided into triangles) while Violet's is a bunch of purple circles (to represent grapes). Also, the default outfit in Scarlet version is orange.

It really does just sound like Scarlet was picked because it's punchier-sounding than "Orange".

Also, these are actually school emblems. If you look carefully in the trailer, you can see them on the character's backpack. (which school you go to depends on the version)

Maybe the legendaries aren't literally based on fruit but the locals of the region simply use the fruit as symbols for each pokemon, or maybe they're symbols to represent different factions of people.

Being honest, I hope they go back to starters on the box. It always felt like a bit of a spoiler to me to have the final boss on the package of the game. Assuming this game follows that same tired formula from the last 8 games.

Here's some stuff that stood out to me in the trailer:
>A bowl of oranges and grapes. Since we've seen these emblems 49776996 on the player character already, we know grapes and oranges are a motif in the game. So the random shit laying around the room isn't all just random shit they thought looked cool.
>A FUCKTON of maps and globes laying all over the room
>A close-up of a clock going out of control, along with a bunch of random timepieces laying around the room (like hourglasses)
>Some chemistry beakers and glass orbs, along with a few random vials of strange-colored liquid
>A pile of gold treasure that sticks out like a sore thumb
I'm certain a least a few of these things are meant to foreshadow elements of the game. Would it be weird if the legendaries had a geography/history/chemistry theme, since the game seems to be school-based?

I think this is definitely it. I'm still not sure what the oranges and grapes have to do with it but it may just be because of the emblems. I think the legendaries are definitely going to be something to do with science and mythology. Violet seems to have a spacey / cosmic color scheme in the logo while Scarlet is a much more whimsical, magical style font with a gemstone texture. I wouldn't be surprised if the Scarlet legendary has something to do with gemstones and time while the Violet legendary has something to do with science and outer space
