>>49783670>fucking greatNot even close. Simply the main storyline being obviously unfinished in every aspect along with the more linear than ever routes and caves is enough to drop its rating a couple points.
The challenge being thrown out the window without EXTREME measures to limit yourself.
An uninspired gimmick where they just scale 99% of mons up.
The heavily marketed "open" wild area being tiny by any modern standards and being a big route with a ton of pokemon but no walls.
No endgame at all, even the extremely basic battle tower was gutted. I'm still baffled there wasn't a battle frontier in the DLC.
Obtuse design decisions around every corner like sound settings locked behind a key item.
Can't bring all your bros in from past games. Nothing else to say here.
>underappreciated?Absolutely. Good mon designs, good npc designs, good architectural inspiration in the cities.
Might be the best OST since Pokemon Card GB2. Easily the best part of the game.
Good ideas for the themes with the stadiums and tournaments (poor execution). Even the story had some clear good ideas that apparently never developed past the storyboard phase.
Didn't have a slightly changed updated version released a year later for full price and instead gave DLC at a modest price.
Dynamax was absolutely fantastic for VGC and while it's getting a little old in series 12 with the legendaries, it reignited my interest in competitive pokemon that had been dead since they added megas. There are still constant meta-shakeups with unappreciated mons like Barraskewda winning the most recent online tourney by that Italian player.
They also finally added in-game ladder and made building a team extremely easy so it wasn't an absolute bitch to get experience in.
