Remember when they turned Galar upside down just to justify not having Kalos be there? I wouldn't be surprised if they cut this off into an island just to shut it down.
Plus, and I can't believe it's reached the point where I get to say this, but Kalos was built in a now archaic style of region where everything is based on corralled off routes and they would need to adapt that into full open world and somehow manage that in the same timeframe they made this region and Hisui.
I wouldn't be entirely doomer though. If you recall they started lightly referencing the Sinnoh games way back in SM and the Kanto games back to XY and BW. While it used to be the case where remakes got hinted at one generation in advance at most, now they can be as many as two generations ahead when the nostalgia bait starts. Johto and Unova have been getting a lot of little things and I also feel like "Violet" is the type of thing that is just so simple yet so overt that it can't not be a reference to Violet City and of course Unova was out the wazoo in Gen 8 and the whole duality thing with the versions in SV feels more like a callback to BW than others like DP or XY. But it could still get a lot of Kalos references, Kalos mons regional forms and so on.
