I know because I experienced it myself, I was playing BW when I was 14 and the protags were my age, they were so much cooler. XY protags were like 17 and they had lots of customization, we had the chance to feel even cooler and add our own twist to it. Shame about the chibi models, I mean I liked them, but it didn't feel like you were almost a legal adult when going around the overworld.
