I work in tandem with the some of the English localization teams.
The new region is known as the 'Parfall' region.
The story centers around 2 (3) longstanding noble houses of the Parfall region, their patron pokemon (the box legends + 3rd legend) and a mysterious crystalline object discovered in the sea.
The 3 houses all have strong flower and fruit motifs. The Crimson house represented freedom, courage and adventure. The Violet house represented stability, clarity and family.
The gilded house fell from grace around a century ago due to house conflicts.
Recently a large crystalline object was discovered in the sea. The Crimson house believes it can be used to benefit region, the Violet house believes it is a too much of a risk.
Both houses have lost touch with their patron pokemon, and house beliefs. The Scarlet house is extreme freedom, the Violet extreme security. It's an intesresting concept, but very dumbed down from what I've seen.
Remnants of the gilded work in the shadows to harness the power of the crystal, and take revenge on the other houses, guided by an evil pokemon that hides in the sea.
All 3 houses will function as "evil teams" in some manner, though all are just misguided with the real villain being a pokemon.
You start the game as a student enrolling in
pokemon school, and the game starts off focusing on the first week. You have 2 rivals, one is the other player character who chooses the starter strong against yours, the other is another new student who chooses the pokemon weaker towards yours. After this first week, you'll set off on your adventures and eventually become entangled in the affairs of the houses. In Scarlet you'll aid the Scarlet house, and battle the Violet house more, in Violet vice-versa.
