I think it's more of SWSH originally being a 3DS game that they just ported and SV being initially designed for the Switch. I don't think GameFreak will ever listen to criticism.

Places like Spikemuth and Hammerlock sound cool on paper but their actual execution was fucking and I'm actually using this word unironically soulless garbage. The villa in SV is actually somewhat interesting especially with it's use of plants and vegetation to make it feel more alive no matter which part of it you're running around. I can only hope the other areas have just as much care put into them.

Magnemite also surprised me, I booted up PLA and checked out how it looks and the SV model is so much better, it's funny. I'm starting to think all those people shitposting about PLA being a tech demo for Gen IX have been inadvertently proven right, purely because I didn't expect such an improvement.

Yeah GF had to essentially speedrun HD development. They went from SM (Early Gamecube) -> LGBT (high res early Gamecube) -> SW (Late-ish Gamecube) -> Legends (Early PS3) -> S/V (Late PS3)

But late PS3 is fine for Switch, that's essentially not far off from what it's best games look like and this is fully open world to boot.

Seviper's lightmap looks lazy, like they applied a stock scale map. It doesn't follow Seviper's body plan it just goes from top to bottom, and not nose to tail.

Scales are fine, but fur needs depth. A simple texture just makes it look like the pokemon is clad in felt

Anon, The Last of Us was by definition a late PS3 game. It got a port to PS4 a year later. The base game runs like shit but it's way prettier than anything outside of New Snap, and New Snap doesn't have any photorealistic characters in it.

I do appreciate that the Pokemon models are getting better and that should be the priority but if they are capable of making Lucario's fur so well textured(and it looks better in motion than in this screencap for sure) than why the fuck does the grass still look like this. It's not really a minor complaint when we have to see that shit throughout the entire game literally constantly and I'm a "Pokemon games aren't known for their graphics" guy

I don't think it's as bad as some people are making it out to be. My biggest issue is the shading on the models though. It needs to be toned down a bit I think.
I don't like the new player characters either, but that's mostly because their designs are really bland. I imagine there'll still be some nice character designs, so no big deal.
The new textures are strange, but it's hard to really call it bad. It'll be fine if it's consistent I think.

Yes now Gamefreak can finally compete with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Surprising how it only took them 1 gen to go from looking like an N64 game, to being one the best looking Switch games.

1st of all accept that there will not be NEVER a POKÉMON BOTW. Actually nothing will be a BOTW because BOTW was really overhyped.

They are making small steps to make a real next gen game.
If it looks like Pokémon Snap and has a PLA style of battle and catching (specially catching) this will be the best pokémon game ever made.

PLA was just a demo this is the real deal.

It is an improvement but it's a bit of a dangerous one. They seem to be going for a realistic direction, which is really not a good idea for Pokemon. Stylization is a far better route. People are already feeling the effects of this with the trainer characters, and if it keeps going it's going to hit uncanny levels. Not to mention that doing so will also eat up more resources.

Please just don't go further than this. Infact dial down the realism a bit, and just polish the style of the game. Lots of world textures also look too realistic And conflict with the cartoon shape of Pokemon.

Judging by >>49794916 they almost certainly are, you can see the small hill next to Lucario (and it looks like both it and the trainer are partially standing on the hill) whereas the SS screenshot is on entirely flat terrain, looks like they are taking place in the actual game map rather than on stock battle scenes.

The SwSh style was perfect for the pokemon and characters.
