I boxed my gen 7 starter for the first time. Haven't played a mainline game since then until PLA. I boxed my starter again once it evolved.

These days yes, SM was the last game where I never ditched the starter. I used eevee in LGPE for a bit but traded it out for a normal eevee so I could use my boy vaporeon.
Starters are so boring. I want nothing more than to be able to just get shoved onto route 1 and be forced to throw rocks and balls at shitmons until I get one.

Not as a kid but I do now, it's more fun to build your team from scratch instead of having a strong early game focal point that dictates what you use.

I box my starter every single time whenever I play a gen 6/7/8 game, except Rowlet and Froakie sometimes, they're the only good ones.

I actually don't give a shit about starters, but I feel too fucking guilty about boxing them.
I wish games would just start letting you pick from an assortment of generic "starter" mons.
Would feel a lot more meaningful than picking from the same three everyone is going to anyways.
