It has monstrous features that retain it's bird qualities and the direction of an unlikely little chicken going in the direction of a strong fighting type is a neat arc for a starting Pokemon. Nothing about it's weird little back of the head feathers, fire wrists, patterning, or horns are directly evocative of humans.
