Have we considered that maybe the true problem of current Pokemon graphics is the Switch itself? How truly powerful is this thing?

It was both, shit hardware and a team of people who didn't know what the fuck they were doing. All so it is the result of them being given insight. Again, that's common knowledge, GF offices were moved along side the devs of other big name Nintendo games like Zelda .

Switch has its limits, sure but they can still work with their limitations.

I'll admit that I'm curious how further things will go with the new Switch hardware. Pokémon Generation X/10 could very well be on its way to the NVN2 system.

The Switch is at least as powerful as the PS3/360, if not slightly more so. SV looks a million times better than SwSh and it still looks like its a mid PS2 era game.

Probably cuz although the pokemon company as a whole make a lot of money, gamefreak still kinda feels like an indie company as their devs only make pokemon games which really aren't even really ambitious to begin with. They just don't have the experience (and maybe they're not alloted the funds either)

Because the Switch is easily capable of actual proper cel-shading and aesthetic that would make Pokemon look good and still retain their designs without losing aspects of themselves, nor would it constantly be shit on like it has been. GameFreak is just too lazy and more worried about shoveling out game after game anymore and merchandising than actual quality control.

My unrealistic, fantasy pipe dream is for the Super Switch or w/e to have a handheld model and a home model.
Think about it, games could have two graphics presets that take effect depending on which console you're playing on, similarly to how handheld mode works now.
The home model has a better GPU but no screen or place to connect joycons.
The portable is basically the Switch Lite but can be hooked up to a TV so it's basically like current switch with a cost-cut gpu
The graphics profile for each game would be recognized by the system so hand held model would have shittier anti aliasing, crappier shadows and tessellation to run better on the down graded hardware.
The home model would just be a straight upgrade to the Switch and be more comparable to PS and xbox.

Every Nintendo handheld has been underpowered from day one and it was never a problem for developers until the Switch. The DS even had the exact same palette restrictions as the GBA in tilemapped mode, no one complained. Then the 3DS came along and suddenly everybody forgot how to make video games.
We should just go back to making 2D games. Lighting and shaders were a mistake.

Game Boy released in 1989. It was nigh in parity with the NES hardware sans color. At launch it was peerless.

Game Boy Advance upwards 3DS made a strong case for using ARM CPUs in a gaming console. That shit was not underpowered by any means. GBA may have skimped on sound potential and DS may not have the polygonal fidelity of a PSP but developers didn't shy out on the hardware of either in terms of vision.

lol, no it didn't. GBA's color palette was tens of thousands of colors. DS' color palette was hundreds of thousands. Hell, Gen IV and Gen V uses 3D models for buildings and giving the map the illusion of depth so they've abandoned 100% 2D Pokémon much earlier than the 3DS.

Modern Japanese game development graduates who want to keep a job with a large company are trained with 3D because it's guaranteed to land a job. The most 2D they may learn is how to draw, not how to sprite. Game Freak's turnaround rate usually means graduates cut their teeth there for maybe 1 or 2 games then look for another job.

Having a grad student who does know how to sprite probably means they won't last or at least Game Freak would be beneath their pay scale.
