>>49826311Dynamax was the first battle gimmick that was both universal and dynamic. Any pokemon could do it, not just the ones GF let you use it on, so it didn't constrain team building. Furthermore you didn't need an item to do it, so you could pick the best pokemon to dynamax based on the current battle state and matchup. Lastly, because dynamax brought things like weather, terrain, buffs, and debuffs, it greatly opened up team building. You don't necessarily need to bring a dedicated terrain setter just to set up misty terrain to block status; if you opponent has a status move user, you can just use Max Starfall, etc. It's no surprise that in the one season that had no dynamax during SS, that the meta was SIGNIFICANTLY more centralized. I hope that whatever the gen 9 gimmick is, it learns from dynamax and keeps the universality and dynamic nature of it.
