no. "regional variant" is a more honest description. if they call them new species, the palette swap criticisms will pile up (and they're already there to begin with)

If they were presented as new Pokemon, /vp/ would have gone crazy shit wild. Look at how mons from Gen5 are considered here. Just because some of them vaguely look like some Gen1 mons.
