>>49830487Gen I was clearly Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur in lessening magnitudes, although all three are very popular due to nostalgia.
Gen II was close between Typhlosion and Feraligatr, but in the end the former narrowly won out. Meganium was buried by the other two.
Gen III went to Blaziken, followed by Sceptile and finally Swampert. Still, all three were fairly even in popularity. Likely the most equal generation to date.
Gen IV was dominated by Infernape. Torterra has a lot of fans and not many haters, but it still is clearly the third wheel among this set.
Gen V was a fairly easy win for Serperior. Samurott was decently popular, but didn't stack up well compared to many previous starters. Emboar was only rivaled by Meganium as the biggest third wheel to date.
Gen VI had the most evident winner ever in Greninja. Braixen was quite popular, but Delphox got a lot more mixed reactions. Fennekin was the rare case where the most popular initial pick didn't retain that status all the way. Chesnaught is almost certainly the least popular starter line ever.
Gen VII was a lot closer than the previous few gens, but Decidueye did end up a clear winner. Incineroar took up the middle of the pack despite having a considerable amount of people who disliked it. Primarina was pretty well-received, but also feel a bit to the sideline.
Gen VIII had one of the least well-received sets yet, only rivaled by Gen V. That said, Cinderace has had reasonable success in terms of popularity. Sobble was a clear second above Grookey, but upon the final forms being revealed it got a lot closer. It's actually hard to say who lost this gen. Rillaboom fell more to the wayside outside of Grassy Glide shenanigans, but Inteleon got a TON of hate for a starter design.
