Maybe it could eventually happen now that it won’t necessarily be in every generation? The games already keep track of where you caught a Pokémon, so maybe going forward in new gens/regions it could happen

Technically all the patterns have been overridden, Sinnoh onwards has the same pattern as FRLG onwards (except Emerald which uses the same sprite as RS) uses the same body pattern. Since Johto and Hoenn were remade their unique patterns have also been retconned to the standard Kanto variant.
