I don't know why it hasn't happened before. More irrelevant franchises have been selected and there is the whole Pokemon/Digimon match thing that could be translated into the game pretty easily.

Probably because Digimon is primarily viewed as an anime series and less as a video game series. Yes, I know it's had plenty of games, but that doesn't change it. It's the same reason they're not gonna add Goku or Luffy or Naruto.
