I remember seeing younger kids playing games like Sapphire on their GBA well into the DS era or kids whose parents would buy them SoulSilver and that was the only Pokemon game they owned. Ever. I'm also in the 30 something age bracket and there were so many women my age who were buying LGPE in 2020 and talking about how nostalgic they felt catching a fucking Zubat and showing it to their daughter or something. So you have that factor too, all of these normies who just want a Pokemon game and don't care about anything else. I also wonder if the open world aspect will turn people off. When pla came out it was very popular with gamers, but I heard nobody talking about it outside that sphere. It just didn't penetrate like LGPE and SWSH did
Pokemon is a very safe brand, but I think it also suffers from being so recognizable that most consumers will just snap it up without really reading the fine print. Just like Marvel and Disney at this point. Scarlett will sell less copies because there's already so many other options on the console and most consumers will just say they already own a Pokemon game. Now the flip to that of course is that those later era games tend to be a lot better because they have more experience on the console and a better idea of what they want to do. I don't want to say they cater to the fans more, but generations 2, 5 and 7 plus some of the remakes are all better than the first generations that released on those same systems.
