I mean, not really. We've seen normal Pokemon take significant digs at G-Maxed ones multiple times in the current series (most recently Marnie's Grimmsnarl, but way back during the SwSh arc Leon handled that G-Max Centiskorch pretty easily), and Ash won against Korrina's Mega Lucario with no Mega of his own.
This doesn't even hold true in the games, Piers is canonically able to hold his own against Raihan (who in turn rivals Leon) without using D-Max, and it's outright implied that if Piers did use it he'd usurp Raihan and possibly be able to go toe to toe with Leon. No matter which way you look at it, this line of reasoning is bunk.

Megas, Z-Moves and Dynamax all have their issues in the games but the majority of that is ultimately down how they affect the mechanics of the game (ie actual quantitative rules being set).

In the anime when you get down to it, they're just a flashy cool things they can show off for sakuga. I can maybe see what you're saying about it making battles predictable, only as far as the trainers almost always save it for the final matchup, but how it's not like they didn't follow that structure from before any of these existed. Like Gary's obvious ace was Blastoise or Drake's obvious ace was Dragonite and everyone over the age of 3 going into those battles knew those were going to be the main focus at the end of the match.

No, they still give significant power boosts. I was rebuking your claim that in order to be a top dog you HAVE to use one, when that's not true in either game or anime canon.

All of Mega's drawbacks come form the initial barrier of being bonded with your partner. After you break that it's complete smooth sailing and you basically get a free power boost. No matter how bonded you are with your G-Max mon, you only get 3 (admittedly massively powerful) moves at your disposal before you're forced to exit. On pure mechanical terms (in-game) Dynamax is far stronger than Megas, but in the anime we haven't seen any proof that they're stronger in the slightest. The only direct Mega vs D-Max showdown we've seen literally has the G-Max run out while Lucario was still mega, and then proceed to overpower the now regular Machamp.

I don't think you watch the anime, Megas have been shown to be better than Dynamax because it doesn't go away after 3 moves.

I think the Karaage Sisters one is still the weakest. The Nishikawa one was the best one IMO. But yeah, maybe I'll get some shit for this since everyone's hyped right now but I was pretty underwhelmed by this song. Usually Rika openings get me pumped as fuck but I think this song just didn't play to her strengths all that well.

That being said, I don't even mind the idea of the show sticking to the same song for a long period of time. It can work to let a show have a specific theme song, and we can do a whole lot worse than 1, 2, 3.

XY did use a couple BW themes and SM used a handful of XY ones, but they haven't gone way back for a while now. They even went to the trouble of making a new version of Mezase Pokemon Master and Type Wild for SM, so I don't think they'll ever go back that far anymore. Several pre-BW tracks have gotten rearrangements for movies and those can be used in the anime, but the originals are forbidden

I don't think the Koharu episodes are that bad by themselves, but I hate how obligatory they feel. Like they suddenly remembered they needed to have some girly stuff in the show. May and Dawn worked because they were introduced in the first episodes of their series and the status quo was quickly established. It's the same issue Serena had, where both her and Koharu were basically background characters in their own series for dozens of episodes until a remake comes out and Contests are relevant again, because god forbid we have the girl companion have a battle once in a while or something.

But my point was that they didn't need to spend any extra time, they just needed to have some other blacked out Pokeballs drawn in to make it seem like Ash only caught the battle near the end and the fight was actually a 3v3 or something. The in-universe cope reason is probably that trainers should be ready for a variety of situations, ranging from 1v1s where you have to be very careful and rely on only one poke, to full battles to demonstrate you don't have any weak links or rely too heavily on just one or two mons.

I agree, early OS and mid-late OS should probably be split (I wouldn't even say at Johto, the shift happened before then IMO) . Early OS had really good filler that's completely unique to anything we've gotten since. There was a pretty stark contrast in quality and an awkward adjustment period once Pokemon became a worldwide phenomenon and they realized the show would be going on forever (and they needed to make the show more international-friendly).

I think a lot of the Orange Islands are very good and its sorta all filler. I'd say it fell off some time in Johto (which had a solid start, though that was with main content being frontloaded). I'd say it started to slow down and go a bit downhill after gym 2 with some obvious exceptions (I remember the Heracross vs Scizor ep being good for instance).

Generally speaking they improved some things in Johto such as battles (though those basically got better as of the Blaine battle), but the show became more flanderized, less weird, and just kind of more generic.

Just FYI guys, in both SM and JN they have at several points shown something similar to the Bond Phenomenon, except Ash does it with a bunch of his team members now, especially Pikachu. It's just one of the regular features of his training style now.

If Ash's strongest pokemon is Pikachu and Pikachu couldn't beat Leon or Alan's zard(granted it had already taken down two Ubers) then what makes you think his Charizard stands a chance? It would probably job to Rowlet if they fought.

I didn't say anything about XYfags. Yes, Ash has always been on good terms with his Pokemon, but Ash specifically going out of his way to mimic movements and attacks alongside his Pokemon, not to mention flinching himself when they get hit, wasn't something that was done before XY, even with Pikachu. You can maybe argue it's just a shounen trope, but it wasn't a thing in BW or anything before that.

This is a strange pair to cite as examples. Noivern was in the same team that introduced the idea so they weren't abusing it as much yet. Dracovish has appeared a single time after getting captured so he hasn't really had the opportunity to do much in general.

I wasn't saying that aura isn't something that helps along with it and I wasn't saying he's literally replicating Battle Bond, but in several instances we've seen him doing similar things with his other Pokemon (I can think of times he did it with Lycanroc, Dragonite and Gengar). They didn't really do this sort of thing back in BW or any of the series before that. I guess you could argue it's just an animation flourish but it's just something I've noticed.

Wdym time constraints, for all I care they could ditch all those trash Goh and Koharu episodes and get the full battles we should be getting, I would watch all of them instead of skipping episodes arbitrarily. Team Rocket episodes are comfy tho.
