And additonally the point of "its not actually confirmed" is very much a thing here, Gamefreak never has and never will show Lyra and Kris as the same entity especially by this point.
And while you can cry about how everything is fanfic, nearly everything dividing between Green and Leaf feels pretty telling.
I do not think these were built with being the same "character" in mind; one gets to be a glorified manga reference and the other gets to be "the major face of FRLG".
Red 2 is relegated to being a proper Red variant since Reds legacy is much stronger than FRLG itself.
The idea that Gamefreak is utterly detached from their own marketing is amusing; they definitely pander to their "boss" to some extent. And TPC definitely doesn't consider the games as some ultimate canon.
