I feel most legendaries and mythicals nowadays have to have a lot more tacked onto them to convey their abilities when they could be simpler like Ho-oh:I don't think it's a nowadays problem really, Ho-Oh was always kind of unique in this regard. Mew and Mewtwo were both heavily anthropomorphized and Lugia was literally designed for the anime where it was supposed to be a humanistic mother-like character.
