>>49862156Gens 1, 3, or 4 feel like they're the all around best ones to me. I honestly don't think any of them are bad, though personal bias would put 4 above 1 or 3 just because Empoleon and Torterra are some of my favorites.
>Gen 4 > Gen 3 > Gen 1 > Gen 2 > Gen 6 > Gen 7 > Gen 5 > Gen 8Gen 2's monotypes and simple designs are all good, but they also feel a bit basic.
Gen 6 feels decent, but I always thought Greninja and Chesnaught broke from the designs of their middle evolutions a bit too much. Also the Fennekin line's emphasis on ear hair always seemed kinda weird to me.
Gen 7 has generally well designed starters, decent middle forms, but I think Decidueye and Primarina are a bit subpar. I felt the same about Incineroar for a while with how their heel wrestler concept just felt like they wanted to do another fighting type, but Smash gave it a lot of personality.
For Gen 5 I think the Tepig line in general is good, but the Oshawott line wasn't great. Samurott especially with its huge head, strange body weight distribution, tiny fingers when it's wielding its arm shells as swords, and other stuff made it feel awkward all around. Then the Snivy line felt like it wanted to not be a snake, with the first two forms barely looking like they should be able to move, and Serperior looking too fat and short when it's keeping a significant amount of its body upright at all times out of pride.
Gen 8 just didn't feel good; it seemed as if it followed similar beats to Gen 6 with Bulky Grass, Cool Water, and Cute Fire but didn't do as well.
