>>49866155I started around march last year, and I finished the main dex in october, but I put off getting gmax forms/alcremie for a couple months after that. My Living dex also contained all the different dex forms (but not gender differences that aren't listed as forms) and I was doing a ribbon quest (getting every ribbon possible on a pokemon) which made it take a little longer, and finally I was also doing it one gen at a time (so completing the entire 1-3 dex in gen 3 first, then trading up and completing the sinnoh dex in gen 4, etc etc).
Considering some pokemon are way easier to get in later games than in their original games (and grinding also sucks in gen 3-5), you could probably complete the entire dex in a few months with a bit of planning and the right games. The hardest parts were mostly just running around for 1% encounters and dealing with rare spawns in the kanto safari zone, as well as collecting the ribbons because it meant dealing with battle frontier/battle tower bullshit.
