Gengar was one of the perfect examples in Gen 6 because Levitate gave it nice immunity to a predicted ground move when the opponent expects you to mega. Sableye is still relevant too since you lose out on Prankster.
By comparison Gmax is braindead because it overcentralizes everything to the same static buff or side effect depending on if you use the special move, but even then the counter is just for the other player to retaliate by flipping the switch at the same time.
