Unironically it's only because of Mega Evolution. Shills despise it just as much as GameFreak (unless spinoffs, GO or the anime does it, then it's OK :^) ) and that in turn makes XY and ORAS lose points by default.

I guarentee they have not thought about megas since LGPE. They were done with the gimmick, threw it in an experimental Kanto shilling time waster, then moved on to the next flashy game seller.
