I remember before SwSh was revealed, all the concepts people had for a Britain-based Pokemon game were just the same "hurrrr make it really medieval and make everyone posh like the queen". Galar actually delves into elements of modern British culture that I didn't expect Pokemon to touch, like football fandom and hooliganism, and each major city is a clear nod to somewhere specific in England:
>Motostoke = Manchester, with its industrial aesthetic and gritty feeling>Hulbury = Liverpool, port city with its own Beatles knock-off band>Hammerlocke = Oxford/Cambridge, academic city with dreaming spires and regal architecture>Circhester = Bath, with luxurious townhouses and a replica of the Roman baths>Wyndon = London, obviouslyIt would have been easy for them to simply make a faceless region with some vague references to British "pip pip tally ho" stereotypes and call it a day, but I'm really grateful they actually took the time to reflect so many aspects of the actual modern UK.
