TPC is REALLY strict on how Pokemon is represented by other parties, so he likely isn't even allowed to do a lot with it. For example, TPC's rules are why we don't have shiny alts for the Pokemon fighters.

I'm certain Sakurai mentioned it in an interview but I can't seem to find it at the moment. There are sources of him mentioning TPC being really difficult to work with, though. Other examples are in Mario Maker and Yoshi's Woolly World, how they wouldn't allow the Pokemon amiibo to be functional in those games.

Do we ever hear Sakurai's opinions' on the Nintendo IPs? Given that he was 26 when Red and Green exploded I could kind of see it being something he just has to work with as a part of the Smash Brothers package, like the game tie-in Fire Emblem characters.
