I knew a few girls in college who were ironically into Pokemon. They wore like trucker hats, socks, hightops and tacky ass hoodies with pikachu and the gen 1 starters on them.
They weren't frumpy either, actually pretty good looking, one of them was in the nursing program, they weren't art hos.
Then after Pokemon GO! Pokemon became officially mainstream and you could get away with being an adult an unironically liking it.
