They should have been scrapped, Pokemon Z should have launched as the last 3DS Pokemon game in 2015/16, and then Sun and Moon should have been launched as the first Switch Pokemon games in 2017/18.

More dev time wouldn't have changed SM and Z wouldn't have saved XY. There was already a gap year in gen 6 after the initial B team time was taken by ORAS. The A team wouldn't have had any effect on Z, just SM.

I can see why it exist the problem is it didn’t try hard enough, why the hell did they make new protagonist but then made the story exactly the same, it should have been a kanto sequel, maybe something that happens years after pokemon gold it could have tied way better with sun and moon like showing a younger kukui beating kanto gyms or if you really wanna go into the future show lillie looking for a cure for lusamine instead all we got was mina just saying “hey this region is pretty battle me”

TLDR: SM is useless now and Let’s go is wasted potential

It doesn't matter if you're right or wrong at this point. The issue here is that it happened, and there's nothing you can do about it besides either deal with it or move on and hope that things go back to the way they were before.
Lord knows that if they do 3rd versions again, they'll be marketed as "definitive" versions (e.g.; all old mechanics like Megas, Gigantimax, etc. are present and all Pokemon available) and it'll be an even worse clusterfuck on /vp/ because this was always the intention if they ever brought back 3rd games.
