A mark is a thing that goes in the ribbon section of a pokemon's summary. It cannot be acquired by doing something, pokemon just have a chance of having one when they spawn, an Uncommon Mark is like 1/50 and a Rare Mark is about 1/100. Those are just rue vanilla marks, there are marks like the curry mark that pokemon you get by making curry have a chance of having, marks that pokemon who spawn in cold climates can have and so on, there's even a super special mark that hasn't been used yet, presumably it's for special event pokemom but so far none of those have come with it.
Basically dont worry about it, it's for collectors and autists since unlike balltism and shinies, other people will never see it

What annoys me about marks is
1. You’ve know what of knowing a mon has a mark upon random encounter
2. Hatched mons can’t have marks

The mechanic should have had it so that when you encounter a mon, it says “A sociable Rookiedee appeared!!”
I shudder to think how many rare mons I released before I knew about this mechanic.
And also, because of how painfully long it can take to breed the mon you want, a nice reward would have been marks being applicable to hatched eggs, but no.

I absolutely agree with you, the fact you have no way of knowing unless you manually check every Pokemon caught sucks, it’s also very hard to get a Pokemon you actually want with the mark you want, as often the two won’t line up (having to catch at dusk or in certain weather conditions, and again, even then it’s only a slight chance of getting it)

The worst thing is I’ve only gotten a few mark Pokemon randomly, and three of them are ‘sociable’ omnastars

I haven't done much mark hunting for this very reason. The 'catch of the day' mark is 3/25 with the mark charm though, right? I feel like the grind for some cool fish mons with that mark shouldn't be too difficult. Catch of the day Gyarados, Milotic, Kingler. Maybe I'll try and snag a few of those. If I get any spares, I'll let you know anon. Is there a fish mon you'd want with that mark?

It’s a little tricky, and fully dependant on RNG as per usual. I’ve fished up a fair few mons, and always end up with either just magikarp & mark, or seem to have long dry streaks. But no, not as bad as other marks to farm for. If you ended up with a double feebas that would be amazing, I have the other two- sadly feebas eludes me often

All would be amazing, but I’m not greedy and understand if you want to keep some, especially as you’re not asking for anything particularly amazing for them- the aforementioned eevee, skwovet, Pangoro and arcanine are top of my list if needed to choose (and understand completely!) but I’d love all of them

They should have made marks pass down thru breeding. It would have been cool to stack as many marks on a pokemon as possible and it would have been helpful to teach newer players about different egg groups. Also if they bring back marks, they should bring back PLA catching mechanics, too.

Yep, still haven't gotten my first gym badge.
The few hours I've spent playing were actually to grind her out so that she'd show up during my loops of the forest.
Conveniently, she keeps showing up at the end bridge and then respawning right behind the bridge for an easy 8 apricorns, not that they've done me much good so far.

Man, I really want to just play the game at this point but I've put way too much time into this to stop now.
I've set a mental limit of five of each ball plus an additional lure for a Chewtle and a heavy for an eventual Galarian Slowking who is already in my top five designs of all time.
Might even be my new favourite but at this rate I'll never know because I'll never be able to catch one.

I'd apologize for the ranting and whining but I think most here would rather an autist sperg out about shitty RNG than "bump".

I thought I'd be cool to get the starters from gen 3 with luxury balls because it required me to finish the gamecube games without catching any shadow Pokemon except for the one teddiursa in XD.
It sucks though I got a shiny rayquaza and was forced to use a master ball though. Also lost a Registeel I tried to catch with luxury balls then any ball but it struggled to death.

I was probably using a smeargle with spore however it was weak due to lack of ev training.
