I thought some time ago they "future proofed" the models by doing a ton of work to make them all detailed, so they could be reused in the later titles.

They didn't make the original set of models, they're still doing the work of making any new models for new pokemon, importing the old ones into new games, and keeping them updated in terms of meshes/bump maps/textures/etc.

Saying it was "future proofed" held up across 4 games (XY, ORAS, SM, USUM, 5 if you count Go), but it started to fall apart when they had to go HD. Let's Go's limited roster made it more manageable, but the facade just fell apart in SwSh.

You're right, every game ever should have an infinite number of models and animations available to put in because the 3D modeling team is separate from the rest of the development team. That's definitely how game development works and I'm definitely not a seething retard.

i can't really understand this "too many models" excuse,they already have the models from XY/ORAS/SM (all pokemon) they been reusing them on the newer games iirc so the only thing that they are doing are the models for the new pokemon,Why don't they simply add some of the discarded ones on each game that has been released? this could be a good way to "catch them all" transfer them for example one pokemon that isn't on swsh from the new games,you know consoomers would buy the game if "it has this Pokémon that isn't obtained in the past game and you can transfer it!!" Gamefreak is just fucking stupid

Man I forgot how much pre-baked shadows they did on 3DS, for better or worse. I do think the lighting engine in Sword achieves the same effect in a higher resolution pretty well, though the sharper edges of the shadows from 3DS are missed at times.

You do know how they make models like this, right? That "Switch" texture is likely just the standard one they send out to everyone like they do with the meshes (you do know how they made the mesh, right?). In actuality, the 3DS's base texture has more work put into it because the 3DS doesn't have as advanced lighting as the Switch does. Now, post how many other maps the Switch has compared to the 3DS, you do have those right?

Technically the model is the mesh and the textures, even if colloquially the model is just considered the 3D part. It's interesting, you might want to look into it. Normal maps may fucking blow your mind.
