Bianca's arc was good, but imo Serena's coming to term with you being more skilled at fighting despite her aspirations and the pressure she probably felt due to her family was more subtle and deeper.

It's a fine narrative because the player just has to beat rivals at some point, writers work with what they have.

Shauna is pretty different in treatment. Shauna doesn't have an arc nor discover herself like Bianca does.
Shauna is still interesting in how confident she is from the start about not having to be the best, stories just treat them differently.

I felt bad every time I beat Serena. It looks like her self esteem has been shattered and then danced over by the player. Every subsequent playthrough of Y I played as her because I couldn't handle seeing her sad again even if that meant not seeing her cute ponytail.

Shauna is a character vacuum she's as much a rival as a bucket of water is. Marnie shows up for like 3 seconds in the entire game.
And they're both shit compared to Bianca.
