Are they still fun? Yeah, they're basically your standard pokemon fare, just not fleshed out at all (which is really all you can ask for from the first of a franchise, just compare SMB1 to Mario World, Mega Man 1 to Mega Man 3, etc.)
But at the end of the day it's a proven fact that gen 1 is held together by toothpicks and earwax. So much so it's home to some of the weirdest and most unique glitches in gaming.
