Venasaur is the best of the Kanto starters, not just in it's own game(which is also true) but just in general.

Blastoise was the best balance, cool design and not an outright shitmon. Venusaur was broken in-game and the de facto easy mode option, but has a hideously ugly design. A fucking wart-covered toad with a shit-smelling flower jammed in its back.

Venusaur is an all-rounder with 100% critical Razor Leaf, Victreebel is a glass cannon.
The only reason why Exeggutor is used more because it's not weak to Psychic like Venusaur
