I didn't list charizard/gyarados because its always said, also obvious ones like dark rattata if regional forms do the same. At least 3 of every type of pokemon.

I didnt necessarily mean for that to be the reason, every single fighting type (except poliwrath) in gen I is monotyped and they all do exactly the same thing but to varying worse degrees.

similar choices were made with fearow and victreebel because theyre typing is overdone

Bones are associated with Ground in Pokemon. That's why both Bonemerang and Bone Rush are Ground type. Mandibuzz is, like Marowak, covered in bones, and also learns Bone Rush.

That has nothing to do with it being steel, that’s just Kanto favoritism. Kanto Pokémon tend to be all sorts of extra moves so they can be as broken as possible.

No that anon, but why doesn't hypno work as a dark type? Leaving aside the fact that in G2 that would have been op, I think that fits his lore, he is literally a boogeyman/sack man* who kidnaps children.

The rest seems silly and forced to me, but in the case of Hypno it doesn't sound too bad.

How does it? All it does is induce sleep and eat dreams. That's always been a psychic thing in pokemon. Nothing in its dex entries are more dark type than any other pokemon that's ever attacked humans.

In any case it's rare that they get to change the type of a pokemon at this point, unless it's due to the inclusion of a new type, so the closest we will have to an update for the old pokemon will be a regional form

Reading this dex entry, don't people get salty about pokemon being individual characters more than they are a species? But this entry refers to a specific hypno as if it's the only one. Not only that, it is a job mon which I never really thought about before.

Drifblim kidnaps children, Sandyghast kills people and animals. Dark type pokemon are usually cruel, use underhanded tactics, and hunt in packs. Or some combination of. Hypno does none of these. Putting people to sleep is dishonorable to me, but it's not really considered underhanded in the world of pokemon since it's a commonly used by lots of different pokemon. Ghost would be more fitting than dark if another type had to added.

For me it's moreso when their design ascribes a specific personality to every member of a species. For instance, I can't image an Incineroar acting any way besides proud and boastful, yet the nature system makes this weird with personalities that clash with their described personality.

You're right, I would add that there are cases like Absol's, but I really think it would be trying to force the issue.

Also as Lance stated, "not all dragons are dragon-type" we could add "not all evil pokemon are evil-type" (Dark-type)
