The Chinese zodiac is not just a list of animals. It is a specific cyclic order, with animals representing each part of that pattern. If the animals do not appear in that order, it isn't the Chinese zodiac, it's just a bunch of animals.

Also, they already broke the pattern four times. Japan isn't fucking blind to Chinese culture, they live right next door. A western dragon is not part of the Chinese zodiac. A badger is not 'the same as a rat.' A fox is not 'the same as a dog.' And even blaziken doesn't count. A chicken, from the perspective of such an old and specific tradition, is not a rooster.

Tldr: even if fuecoco is a snake, and we get a horse, goat, and ox next, it still isn't the Chinese zodiac. You've been retarded from the beginning.

I maintain that if Game Freak is working under the zodiac premise now, they still didn't explicitly play into it until the fan theories/expectations were unavoidably large. Basically the first 6 generations were coincidence (as evidenced by two of them that don't fit cleanly at all), and at best the two generations since have been deliberate. I'm not committing to a stance on Fuecoco until we see its final evolution, but as of right now it sure seems to not fit at all either, so who knows, maybe the whole thing was just a coincidence or they abandoned it after Scorbunny.
