Also, 3DS models used a simple toon shader whereas Gen 9 is looking like it's leaning more into PBR materials which utilize not only the diffuse texture, but also a bump map, metallic maps, occlusion maps, etc. which all would need to be included in an HD Pokémon game. Also, thank god they're using PBR shaders finally. Seviper looks so much better.
Gen 8? Yeah. Probably could have had all of the mons considering the shaders they were using were shit, so yeah. Great. So the dex cut would have been staved off for a couple years at best. This was inevitable. They just did it earlier than they needed to.
