I want to say I like SM and USUM, everything lines up for me. I like Rowlet's line, I like the region, I love the characters designs, and I really like Team Skull. But for some reason I can never bring myself to finish it. For some reason I just can't get past the boredom I feel when I play gen 7. This usually peaks at around Sophocles's trial, I end up quitting before or after I beat him. I've played XY and SwSh all the way to the end so I don't know why

Gen 5 was the peak. 3 was the reimagining, 4 the climb. 1 and 2 were the original story and sequel. Gen 6 was the decline, but 7? 7 was the decent into hell. 8 has been slightly better, but slightly better than hell isn't much better when you know the sweet high of the peak.

How is being conceptually worse in every manner trying to climb up?
6 was tripping and falling after Gen 5 skipped around having the time of its life. Gen 7 was looking at their skidded knees and peeling the skin off and Gen 8 was just amputating the legs entirely.
It wasn't until PLA that the series got a damn wheelchair but it could have easily been avoided if Sun and Moon didn't pioneer most of the problems like gimmicks, pandering, lack of national dex or dungeons, to begin with.
The series could have easily gotten back on its feet after XY. The bar wasn't high at all and yet Gen 7 explicitly chose to lower it further

I agree that PLA was a step in the right direction, and it's no surprise that it's so similar to SM. Both games are refreshing and try to change the formula even just slightly, which is appreciated after XY and SWSH respectively. It's no wonder how PLA even brings back so many Alola features and even has the guy who made USUM as it's director. They're both in no way perfect and you could sit and point out their flaws, but at least they're interesting and a step in the right direction.

Gimmicks were pioneered by Gen 6 with the introduction of mega evolution. National Dex is still functionally in SM and was only removed in SWSH. Kanto Pandering was literally started by Kalos with shit like free kanto starters, two megas for kanto pokemon, copy pasted maps from RBY, forced encounter with a Kanto Pokémon as your first wild pokemon etc. Your point doesn't make any sense and if anything helps prove my point. Gen 6 was the one that created all the problems that would haunt the later gens. And this hasn't even included other stuff Gen 6 did like the shitty models and especially the eternal flying ones, the EXP share, the difficulty, the tourist trap map design etc.

No, XY was so rotten at the core that any subsequent attempt wouldn't be able to completely recover from it. That's why now even after 9 years, the series has only ever so slightly recovered

Leaving behind HM slaves and making IV checker a function of the Pokédex were nice though. Plus there are Pokémon from Alola that I really liked like Vikavolt, Cosmos, the mermaid, and the concept of regional variants (even though they all kinda sucked). It was also useful to have all the mega stones in one game. SMUSUM weren’t the best games but there were quality of life things that made it fun. No game had it easier to farm BP than the Mantyne ride. I admit the series went down from DPP, but SwSh was when I actually decided to call it quits. Been playing since the original red version.

Again, all the groundworks for that were laid by XY. SM was a departure from the traditional formula, SWSH was a return to XY's formula with only some influences from SM.

SM removed triple/rotation/inverse/sky battles, national dex, fishing, dungeons, etc etc. Deflecting SM's problems onto XY doesn't absolve SM of them.

There are plenty of things that XY removed from BW but it's irrelevant since they're both shit. The point is that SM at least provided replacements and improved the rest of the game instead of letting it stagnate.

Even if you don't like it, you could at least commend them for trying something new and different in Gen 7. That's why it and Legends Arceus are the better games in the series which makes sense since they're so similar

Alola has the natdex in function because all pokemon are available. Fishing is still in the game and is in fact made even more convenient. Dungeons are still in the game. So please do play the game before you shit post. Otherwise it's embarrassing

I don't necessarily like the 3DS games but people acting like anything other than Gen 5 killed the series is baffling. In terms of sales, in terms of public interest, in terms of merchandise, in terms of anime, the series shit out in Gen 5 and was saved from near death by Gen 6.
