In Japan, Sneasel and Weavile are both often portrayed as cats because they have the onomatopoeia “nya” in their names.
Because of that, Nyula and Manyula are treated as honorary cats in both official merchandise and artwork. Pokken’s portrayal of Weavile is a good example, and my personal definitive portrayal of the species.

English localized names don't exclusively determine what Pokémon are based on and are often inaccurate, e.g. Pidgeot being an osprey, Beedrill being a hornet, Persian being a Siamese, etc. Sneasel and Weavile are just as much cats as they are weasels.

Espurr is the only one where I think I prefer the first stage over the second. Meowstic is based, but Espurr just hits all the beats of being utterly adorable to me.
It also helps the first cat I ever had was a grey one, so it kind of reminds me of him.
If we're throwing wild cats into the mix, then Luxray.

I'm not a trannymon apologist, but then Lugia was intended female too so maybe you have a good reason for saying this. Other than Mewtwo having lady voice in that one movie with the mega evos. I mean, they gave him male VAs in both dubs of the first movie CG remake didn't they?
