Cuteness factor: 8. Reason for the high rating here is because his overall look (hair, face shape) combined with his simple outfit really does give an impression of a regular cute kid. Plus the simplicity helps in a way because fan artists tend to have a field day with simplistic designs they can draw easily and play around with.
So while it is boring as fuck on its own it does have some things going for it, not the least of which being the mystery of why they made it so drab. Will this painfully ordinary NPC uniform look play into the game's plot in some meaningful way? Are they just putting negative effort into protag design because they've given up and committed to the idea of giving us a soulless blank slate to play dress up with? Need more details. If he is indeed the exception and not the new rule I don't mind him at all, especially if the new game really does focus on school life.
