Why is this the worst rated main Pokemon game on metacritic and game rankings?

Critics are retarded and have completely inconsistent, variable standards. I'd imagine the main reason it got a lower rating was because it was a "Ruby/Sapphire rehash", rather than it being rated low in a vacuum.

FPBP, Emerald is the best Gen 3 game by itself, but reviewers are retarded and ranked it knowing that Ruby and Sapphire exist and that this game was just an 'improved' version.

It's a good game but it's still flawed. Notably, it feels like it doesn't have as many area as the other games (possibly because half the map is just water)

OP is wrong. It's the second lowest in terms of Metascore after BDSP. SwSh has the lowest user score. Reviewers in general are harsh on third versions (Platinum also got a lower score than DP, which is mindbogglingly retarded).

It was when people caught on that GF was always going to start putting out third versions that slightly upgraded the original games. When they did "special editions" with Yellow and Crystal people were still on the bandwagon but then they did it again and they caught on that this was going to become a regular thing in the franchise and they weren't down for that.

Why do people rate Emerald and Platinum so highly?

That's not a rhetorical question: I just see lots of people put them high when I think Hoenn and Sinnoh are downgrades from games prior.

I mean, I guess Emerald is better than R/S, but much like Platinum, it makes them salvageable at best.
