well when you're 10 in 1998 and pokemon is entirely new it was actually still sorta challenging and mystifying why dragon resists what it does. it was just weird, and if anything got you pumped up about future pokemon games so there'd be more dragon types

So Red fucked off to Mt. Silver and as far as everyone else was concerned he pretty much fell off of the face of the earth.
Is there a reason why Lance was promoted to Champion instead of Blue? Considering Blue defeated Lance and became the champion (even if only for 10 minutes)?
Was there even a champion before Blue? Was Lance "the champion" simply by virtue of being the strongest member of the Elite 4 and there being no actual champion?

Would have been way more kino for Giovanni to come back under a different alias and be Champion, since by that point in the game there's no real Ground type specialist anyway and the entire subplot of Neo Team Rocket taking over the radio tower could have been handwaved by Giovanni simply ignoring those fuckers because he wanted to relive his childhood dream of becoming a champion and potentially reconnecting with his estranged son. Either way the real tragedy is that fucker Bruno sticking around for Elite 4 Part 2, that lame big tiddy bitch should have been a Gym Leader

Because there was only one primary Dragon line and he fully tamed it since he was the only Dragonite owner at the time. That's why Dragonite evolves so late, it's dedication to the intensive training. Clair only had a Dragonair. Her Kingdra was a lesser form of mastery considering it came from Water-types and had Dragon as its secondary type.

Something that I like about Lance is that he can throw you for a loop of you dont have an ice type or a strong ice type move ready for him. I underestimated him my last playthrough.

The Dragon type seems to be a last-minute addition to Gen 1. The fact that Lance's theme has always been "dragons", not Dragon-type Pokemon, as well as Dragon's resistances (the 3 starter types + Pikachu's type) lends credence to this idea.
