In HG/SS the third starter ball dissapears around before/after you get the Masterball.

was SWSH the only game you played?
this trend has been standard since BW1 where the 3rd starter either got by a 2nd rival or by a professor

I'm not playing the game just for this.

Anyway, in the pic you can see that the third pokeball dissapears (after searching the net a bit, maybe my statement that it happens around the master ball part is wrong).
Interacting with the "Starter giving machine" will say something to the effect of "Wondering what happened to the third pokeball?"

as a kid I was convinced there was a way to get my starter to die so I could get the third
I spent far too much time grinding it to level 100 in the "hopes?" that it would die of old age

I know, but it was cool having the 3rd starter disappear and then reappear strong as hell on the Champion's team at the end of the game.
