The reason your Gen flopped is not because of the genwunner boogeyman.
Your Gen flopped because it failed to reignite the flare and beauty of the Pokemon concept with a great region and great new Pokemon.
Instead we got a completely lukewarm, linear game with 20 roadblocks and half of the new regional dex being mediocre designs, and that's not even just the fursuit wrestler and tranny seel Pokemon. Bruxish, Palossand, Dewpider, Pyukumuku, Minor, Turtonator, Togedemaru, Bounsweet, Crabrawler, all the Ultra Beasts etc. etc. - these are all just poor/average at best designs objectively speaking.
Contests cut. Berry farming cut. Cave puzzles cut. Triple battles cut. Post-game cut. Gym Leaders, CUT.
If you grew up with Gen 7 and enjoyed it, good for you - I enjoyed it when I played it, but the reality is that it's not even in the same ballpark as the Gens preceding it (Diamond/Pearl not included).
It's time to face reality. As much as Gen 7 may mean to you and your childhood, it simply is not as 'good' as the Gens preceding it. You can make every excuse in the book, but this will forever remain the truth.
