PLA is just in the weird zone of linear like Gen 3-6 but not fully open world like Gen 1-2.

Claiming PLA isn't linear is like claiming SwSh isn't linear because you could waste 50 hours capturing monsters and doing dynamax raids instead of advancing the story

the games would be 100x more enjoyable to experience with an actually good story, not cutscenes on rails that take you from gym leaders 1-8 and the box legend

i agree but the gameplay is made worse when a bad story heavy plot interrupts you too much. the story in PLA actively makes it less fun to play, its so bad that it drags down the rest of the game until its over.

The story interruptions in PLA aren’t that bad except for the start of the game and the fugitive arc through the credits. Other than that they’re just small interruptions that you can usually deal with whenever you feel like it without impeding you ability to play that much.

The story is forced into your face and it got really obnoxious in the 3D era where the chibi art style didn’t even catch up until this past generation. So no, I don’t play Pokemon for the story but it’s inescapable.
