Back when fairy was first announced a lot of people believed, before we saw the type chart, that psychic and fairy would have some relationship. At this stage they don't, but it actually made logical sense when everybody believed it. If psychic type is meant to be mental abilities and possibly Cosmic powers, and fairy is sort of a nature/magic/moon bunny type, then wouldn't it make sense for the type that controls the mind and/or space and dimensional powers would supersede the magical nature type? In other words, something like an Alakazam would for sure at least be able to resist a Moonblast. The only snafu is that fairy also has physical moves like play rough and spirit break, which I can't imagine a psychic type resisting. But the physical special split did a lot of things like that, like electric type still being able to resist getting slapped with a wing just because it's a flying type move. So you just got to go with it
