>>50011306Because prior to Brendan/Yuuki and May/Haruka in Gen 3 they named the characters after the game titles (the Manga still does so) rather than giving them normal names. So back in Gen 2 Ethan was called Gold. Strangely, they missed out on a great opportunity to name the female character of Crystal by the game title since Crystal is actually a somewhat common name for girls. Instead they chose Kris (Kurisu in Japanese) which sounds like the male name Chris.
