It's so that both Yveltal and Xerneas can be immune to it (Flying is unaffected by Ground, Fairy is immune to Dragon) and shit on it. That is why it was hiding in a cave in 50% form in XY, it knew it had to do something about the siotuation, but it fears the EcksDeer and Birdy.
