Didn't notice the "why?" bit in the OP:
I like Arceus but I have an interest in mythology/spirituality and I also find godly beings to just be plain cool. Visually, I like how it's design is both angelic and elegant as well as alien and intimidating.
As for genesect, I like it because bug robot with lazer cannon.

Mew, obviouly. Because it's the the most iconic and Pokemon wouldn't become popular in Japan (and therefore wouldn't have made it overseas to the US, either) if not for Mew.

Darkrai because the 2007 movie made me feel things was very interesting. also got one on my birthday through the Wi-Fi events back then, so some sentimental attachment

That is my reason, too. I really wish that I knew about wifi events when I was playing DP. I am actually considering buying BDSP for the sole purpose of getting Darkrai. I have no Pokemon games on my Switch besides Unite.
